Performing failover operations

You can perform planned and unplanned failover operations between volume pairs.

The Volumes section in the details of the Block Storage Replication Profiles page contains a table of local and remote volume pairs that are configured for block storage replication. These table entries are reflected in the block storage replication profiles for local and remote systems. From these profile tables on the local and remote systems, you can perform planned and unplanned failover operations between the local and remote volume pairs.

You initiate a planned failover operation from the sending system, that is, the system that is replicating data from its local volume to the remote volume on the remote system. You must select one of the following options:
  • After the failover operation completes, sending and receiving replication roles between the volumes are swapped, and replication is enabled in the opposite direction.
  • After the failover operation completes, replication roles are not swapped, and replication is disabled.

You initiate an unplanned failover operation from the receiving system, that is, the system that is receiving replicated data from the remote volume on the sending system.
