Safety and precautions
Before you attempt to remove or replace any device in the system, read the following guidelines:
Handling static-sensitive
devices
Attention: Static electricity can damage management
nodes, compute nodes, and other electronic devices. To avoid damage,
keep static-sensitive devices in their static-protective packages
until you are ready to install them.
- Limit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity to build up around you.
- Handle the device carefully, holding it by its edges or its frame.
- Do not touch solder joints, pins, or exposed circuitry.
- Do not leave the device where others can handle and damage it.
- Remove the device from its package and install it directly into the management node or the compute node without setting down the device. If it is necessary to set down the device, place it back into its static-protective package. Do not place the device on the node cover or on a metal surface.
- Take additional care when you handle devices during cold weather. Heating reduces indoor humidity and increases static electricity.
Replacement guidelines
- When you install your new node, take the opportunity to download and apply the most recent firmware updates. This step will help to ensure that any known issues are addressed and that your node is ready to function at maximum levels of performance.
- Observe good housekeeping in the area where you are working. Place removed covers and other parts in a safe place.
- Back up all important data before you make changes to disk drives.
- Before you remove management nodes or compute nodes from the chassis, you must shut down the operating system and turn off the device. You do not have to shut down the chassis itself.
- Blue on a component indicates touch points, where you can grip the component to remove it from or install it in a management node or a compute node, open or close a latch, and so on.
