Restoring component level data

You can restore component level data from a suitable remote restore location or a configured alternate restore location.

Before you begin

Before you can restore component level data, you must have performed at least one backup operation by using a backup profile configured for component level backup. For more information about configuring backup profiles and performing backup operations, see the Related tasks.

About this task

Complete the following procedure to restore component level data from a remote location or alternate location.

Procedure

  1. From the console, click System > Backup and Restore.

The Restore table is displayed, showing the available restore locations where backup data is stored.

  2. Select a location from the Restore table by clicking the appropriate radio button and then click Restore data.
Note: If you are restoring user or user group component data, the restore location must have been configured for encryption. You will be prompted for a valid password to access the encrypted data.

The Restore Configuration window is displayed. The selected restore location name is displayed.

  3. Select Component restore if it is not already selected for you.
The system queries the remote location and after a short delay displays a list of component types that are available to be restored. The component types are displayed in three tabbed lists. Under each tab, only the component types that have one or more components to restore are displayed. The name of each component type is accompanied by a count indicating the number of components of that type available to restore. The following component types are included under each tab:
    • Under the Workload tab:
      • Add-ons
      • Database images
      • Database patterns
      • DB2 fix packs
      • Emergency fixes
      • Pattern components
      • Pattern types
      • Script packages
      • System plug-ins
      • Virtual application patterns
      • Virtual application templates
      • Virtual images
      • Virtual system patterns
      • Virtual system patterns (Classic)
      • Virtual system templates
    • Under the Cloud tab:
      • Cloud groups
      • Environment profiles
      • IP groups
      • Volume groups
      • Virtual appliances
    • Under the Security tab:
      • Users
      • User groups
  4. Select one or more components to restore.

You can expand the node next to each component type to display a table of specific components of that type that you can restore. For each component, the table displays information about the component, such as the name of the component, a description, the date that the component was backed up, and other pertinent data depending on the component type.

Use the Show field above the table to control which components are displayed for including in the restore operation:
    All
    Display all backed up components.
    Only new or changed
Display only those components that satisfy either of the following criteria:
    • The component exists on the backup host, but not on the target Cloud Pak System.
    • If a component exists on both backup host and IBM® Cloud Pak System but differ in their contents, then it does not get listed.
Select one or more components to restore from the table. The number of components that you select to restore is displayed.
Note: Be aware of the following special handling considerations:
    • The table displays all versions of each component that have been backed up over time. You cannot select to restore more than one version of the same artifact in a single restore operation.
    • If you select to restore Volume groups, all backed up components are always displayed, because volume groups are always in baseline backups, not delta backups.
    • If you restore an externally managed environment profile, only the local and not the remote cloud groups are restored. You must perform a restore operation on both local and remote systems to fully reconstitute the environment profile.

You can select components from more than one component type table by expanding each component type node in turn and selecting from the tables.

As you select or clear the check boxes for these components, the estimated storage required and the time to perform the restore are calculated and displayed based on the contents of the selected components.

  5. After selecting all of the components to restore to your system, click Restore to proceed with the restore operation.

You can also click Cancel to cancel the restore operation and close the Restore Configuration window.

  6. Optional: If you selected Users or User groups components to restore, you are prompted for a password to access the encrypted restore data. Enter a valid password in the field provided.
    The restore operation is started.
