Prepare Primary for Takeover operation

Run this operation to prepare a IBM Storage Scale Primary configuration for takeover by an attached Passive configuration.

About this task

Run this operation if this is a IBM Storage Scale Primary configuration, you already have a IBM Storage Scale Passive configuration attached to it and want to start the process of activating the IBM Storage Scale Passive configuration and make it replace this Primary. When the Passive configuration becomes a Primary configuration, all IBM Storage Scale client requests are routed to the new Primary configuration, so that the original Primary configuration can go off line, either for a maintenance window or due to unexpected failures.

Procedure

  1. Expand the Failover Active-Passive section of the GPFS_Manager operations.
  2. Expand the Prepare Primary for Takeover node.
  3. Click Submit.
  4. Click Confirm when asked to validate your request.

Results

This operation performs the following tasks in the background:
  1. Stops all IBM Storage Scale Server nodes on the Primary configuration by running the following GPFS command:
    /usr/lpp/mmfs/bin/mmshutdown
  2. Detaches all IBM Storage Scale shared volumes from the Primary IBM Storage Scale Server virtual machines.

A new entry is displayed under the Operation Execution Results list, with the name Prepare Primary for Takeover. When completed, the status of the operation changes from Active to Done, and the Return Value column displays the result of the operation as a link.

When you click the link, a new tab opens and shows the output of the operation. Verify that there are no errors in this log.
