Planned failover from the sending system

You can perform a planned failover from the sending system where the local volume is replicating data to the remote volume on the receiving system.

Before you begin

Your user name must have the following permissions to perform the steps in this task:
  • Manage block storage replication profiles (Full permission)

A block storage replication profile must have been created on both the local and remote systems.

There should be one or more volumes of type block or block shared created on both the local and remote systems. An administrator for the either system must have configured one or more volume pairs for replication, and enabled profiles. Volume pairs are available to perform failover operations.

About this task

A planned failover is an orderly transition of the workload from the sending system to the receiving system. A planned failover involves recovery of virtual system patterns, virtual application patterns, deployments, and shared services from the sending system to the receiving system. There is no data loss during a planned failover.
Note: The volume must be detached from its virtual machine before performing a failover operation.

Procedure

  1. From the console of the primary system, click System > Block Storage Replication.
The Block Storage Replication Profiles page is displayed.
  2. Select the block storage replication profile from the list.
The details about the profile are displayed. The Volumes section includes a table showing the volume pairs that have been configured and available for replication.
  3. In the Volumes table, locate one or more volume pairs that have the Failover icon displayed in the Actions column.
This icon indicates that a failover operation can be performed on this volume pair.
  4. Click Failover to initiate the operation.
You are prompted to select one of the following options:
    • After the failover operation completes, sending and receiving replication roles between the volumes are swapped, and replication is enabled in the opposite direction.
    • After the failover operation completes, replication roles are not swapped, and replication is disabled.
  5. Select the option to perform and click OK.
The failover operation on the volume pair is started.
