Installing maintenance and updates

Install the latest maintenance fixes and updates to apply maintenance to your existing environment.

About this task

You can install fixes and updates for Cloud Pak System. When a new version or fix pack is released, you must update the system in this order:
  1. Depending on the type of update, your IBM® service representative installs the system update.
  2. As a user, you can download and install:
    • The IBM Foundation Pattern that is included with the group fix for the system update.
    • Any updated base operating system virtual images or hypervisor images.
    • Any other pattern updates, such as IBM Db2® with BLU Acceleration® Pattern and the Database Performance Monitoring service.
Avoid trouble: Update your pattern types, virtual images, and virtual patterns with the group fix and component updates that are released with the version level you are using. For optimal stability, install the latest group fix and component updates. See the Related information section for a link to a list of the available group fix and component updates.

As needed, you can install emergency fixes to your system, separate from a system update. Emergency fixes are used to update the product binary files of deployed instances. Emergency fixes can be individual fixes or a group of fixes that are associated with a specific virtual application pattern.
