Virtual system pattern requirements
Before you use your classic virtual system patterns with Cloud Pak System, verify that you meet the minimum requirements.
Software requirements
- IBM® Foundation Pattern Type version 2.1.20.0 or
later. The license for this pattern type is included with the product, but it must be installed on
the system. Some features might require a specific version of the pattern type.
- To check the current version of the IBM Foundation Pattern Type on the system, go to and check the version of Foundation Pattern Type.
- For steps to install a pattern type, see Importing pattern types.
In addition to these general pattern requirements, there might be additional pattern-specific requirements. For information about hardware and software requirements for classic virtual system patterns that are not covered in this topic, see the documentation for the specific pattern that you are using.
Guest operating systems
- In 2.3.4:
- RHEL 8.8 (64-bit) 4.0.3.0:111
- Windows 2016 (64-bit)
- Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)
- In 2.3.4.1:
- RHEL 9.4 (64-bit) 5.0.0.0:10 and RHEL 8.10 (64-bit) 4.0.4.0:8
- Windows 2016 (64-bit)
- Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)
System configuration
A configured NTP server that is accessible by your virtual machines is required to successfully deploy a virtual application pattern, virtual system pattern, or classic virtual system pattern. When virtual application patterns, virtual system patterns, or classic virtual system patterns are deployed, the NTP server is used to establish the system time for your virtual machines. Without a synchronized date and time, problems can occur resulting in incomplete deployments or failure to start virtual application instances, virtual system instances, or classic virtual system instances. If an NTP server is not used, the system clocks for the Cloud Pak System system and the hypervisors must be synchronized manually.
For information on defining your NTP server in the system settings, see Configuring date and time settings.
A Domain Name System (DNS) server is required for Cloud Pak System to function correctly, as DNS lookup services are used for communication. You are required to specify the DNS server during the system initialization.
For information on defining your DNS server in the system settings, see Administering the DNS server.
