Viewing the high availability status of management virtual machines (VMs)
You can view the status of your high availability management virtual machines (VMs).
Before you begin
Procedure
- Click Problem determination > System > System Troubleshooting.
- Expand the Management High Availability section.
A table of service codes and associated status is displayed. In the table, locate the Overall service code. This service code has one of the following states:
- Online
- High availability mode is enabled and everything is healthy. This state is expected when both Platform System Managers are online and are not currently processing a failover operation.
- Offline
- All services that are supposed to be running on the leader, or active, node are running, but
either some services are not running on the passive node, or the passive node is not turned on. Click Hardware > Management VMs. For each Platform System Manager, verify that Power
status is displayed as
Powered On
and State is displayed asAvailable
.If the status is still Offline after verifying that the Power status of the Platform System Manager is
Powered On
, run thepsm info all
command to review details about the Platform System Manager. Restart a management virtual machine (VM) if it's state displays as "Ineligible Node" after one hour. If the status continues to be Offline, contact IBM Support to determine the reason for the management high availability node not being Online. - Error
- Not all of the necessary services for operation are running on the leader, or active, node. This problem can mean that high availability is not configured correctly, or one or more other needed services are not running on the leader node.
Examine the following states of other services and subsystems that are displayed in the table:- Online
- Starting
- Stopping
- Failed Offline
- Stuck Online
- Offline
If one or more of the service codes have a state of either
Failed Offline
orStuck Online
, contact IBM Support for assistance. Otherwise, the management virtual machine (VM) is likely in a transition state, possibly recovering automatically or performing requested actions. Wait a few minutes and check the status again. Click Refresh to refresh the table, and verify that the Overall service code isOnline
.If one of subsystems listed does not begin with
Service
and isOffline
, contact IBM Support for assistance.
