Installation roadmap for the external Cloud Pak System Software Agent

If you want to install the Cloud Pak System Software Agent in an existing IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring environment, follow the instructions in this topic.

After you deploy the System Monitoring shared service, an instance of the Cloud Pak System Software Agent is deployed and started automatically. After the deployment is completed, this instance of the Cloud Pak System Software Agent starts to collect data for hardware resources in the Cloud Pak System Software and you can view the data in the IBM Cloud Pak System Software Monitoring Portal. For information about how to deploy the Cloud Pak System Software Agent service, see Deploying the System Monitoring service.

If you already have an existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring environment with a monitoring server, a portal server, and a desktop portal, or a browser portal, you can choose to install the Cloud Pak System Software Agent on a computer that is not part of the Cloud Pak System Software. The advantage of installing the Cloud Pak System Software Agent outside of the Cloud Pak System Software is that the Cloud Pak System Software Agent can collect not only statistics for hardware resources in the Cloud Pak System Software, but also statistics for deployments in cloud groups in the Cloud Pak System Software.

If you already have an existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring environment with a monitoring server, a portal server, and a desktop portal, or a browser portal, and you want to install the Cloud Pak System Software Agent outside of the Cloud Pak System Software, complete the following steps to install the agent and other required files:

  1. Check Supported operating systems for the Cloud Pak System Software Agent to see which operating systems are supported by the Cloud Pak System Software Agent.
  2. Install application support on the monitoring server
  3. Install application support on the portal server
  4. Install the Cloud Pak System Software Agent

  5. Follow the instructions at Configuring the external Cloud Pak System Software using command line or Configuring the external Cloud Pak System Software Agent using GUI to configure the agent. If you installed the agent by using remote installation, you can skip this step.

You can now access the Tivoli Enterprise Portal using either the desktop client or the browser client.

Attention: The monitoring server and the portal server must be running for the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to start successfully.
