Overview of the Cloud Pak System Software Agent

The Cloud Pak System Software Agent provides tools that allow you to monitor and troubleshoot the Cloud Pak System Software. The System Monitoring shared service is the base for this monitoring agent. It is automatically deployed with the System Monitoring shared service.

The Cloud Pak System Software Agent collects monitoring data from the Cloud Pak System Software. The monitoring data is then presented in a workspace of the Cloud Pak System Software Monitoring Portal. The monitoring data indicates the overall health status of the Cloud Pak System Software. You can use the data to troubleshoot problems in your system and prevent problems from occurring.

You can access the monitoring data by starting the Cloud Pak System Software Monitoring Portal for either an internal System Monitoring shared service or an external System Monitoring shared service:
  • For an internal System Monitoring shared service, the Cloud Pak System Software Agent is deployed on the virtual machine that hosts the hub Tivoli® Enterprise Monitoring Server.
  • For an external System Monitoring shared service, an instance of the Cloud Pak System Software Agent is deployed on each virtual machine, only one instance of the Cloud Pak System Software Agent is started.

The level of monitoring information that is available to each user of the Cloud Pak System Software is determined by the role that each user is assigned. For example, the following types of monitoring information is available to users with the following user roles:

Cloud user
Users with the Cloud user role can view monitoring information that includes metrics on middleware and database virtual system patterns that they deploy.
Operators
Users with the Operator role can view monitoring information about all of the user deployments within a cloud group.
Administrators
Users with the Administrator role can view hardware monitoring information and all of the monitoring information that is available to operators.
Note: The Cloud Pak System Software Agent does not support the SoftLayer environment, so monitoring data is not available on the Cloud Pak System Software Monitoring Portal.
