Administering the DNS server

A Domain Name System (DNS) server is required for the system to function correctly, as DNS lookup services are used for communication.

Before you begin

You are required to specify the DNS server during system initialization.

You must be assigned the Hardware administration role with permission to Manage hardware resources (Full permission) to perform these steps.

About this task

Your DNS servers must have forward and reverse DNS entries for the range of IP addresses being managed by the product, which uses the derived host name from the reverse lookup during deployment of a virtual pattern instance. All DNS servers must support both forward and backward resolution of host names and IP addresses. If a reverse lookup fails because no host name is defined, the deployment fails. Deployed virtual machines can be configured with multiple DNS servers.
Note: Connectivity issues with the DNS server can cause increased deployment times or failed deployments. The network administrator for the target network must check the routing tables of the DNS server to ensure that it can resolve the network address of the system.

You can use the console, the command line interface, or the REST API to complete this task. For the command line and REST API information, see the Related information section.
