Creating database rule sets

Use database rule templates to create new database proxy rules and add them to a database rule set.

Procedure

  1. From the console, click Catalog > Database Rule Sets.
  2. Click Create New.
  3. You are prompted for database schema information.
This is the JSON file that you created by using the Database Proxy Schema Tool. For more information, see Using the Database Proxy Schema Tool.

After you provide the schema information, the rule set is created and added to the list of rule sets. At this point the status of the rule set is set to DRAFT.

  4. Click the Create New link in the Database Rules section of the rule set details to create a new rule from one of the available database rule templates.
The Create a database rule dialog is displayed for the selected rule set file.
  5. In the Database rule name field, specify a text string name for the rule.
  6. In the Database rule template field, select a template from the available list.
  7. Click Done.
The rule is added to the rule set on the Database Rule Sets page.
  8. Click the Edit icon beside the rule to configure it. Depending on the rule template selected, you can specify the database, table, and column to which the rule is applied.

Results

The new rule set is created. At this point you can click Show Details to display the details of your new rule, or you can click Delete to remove the rule from the rule set. You can repeat this procedure to create additional rules and add them to the database rule set. The status of the rule set is changed from DRAFT to COMPLETED if the rule set contains one or more rules, and all rules within the rule set are in COMPLETED state.

At a later time, you can specify this database rule set in the DB Proxy Policy configuration when you add that policy to your virtual system pattern. For more information, see Creating virtual system patterns.
