Updating IBM Storage Scale deployments

IBM Storage Scale server and client instances that were deployed with Cloud Pak System Software V2.3.5 or later should be able to communicate with each other without updating the instances. Any IBM Storage Scale server or client instance that was deployed with Cloud Pak System Software V2.3.5 or later cannot communicate with older instances unless these instances are first upgraded to a currently supported IBM Spectrum Scale Pattern version.

Important: Review the IBM Storage Scale version that is installed with the current release of Cloud Pak System Software. For more information, see IBM Pattern for IBM Storage Scale versions included with product versions.

The IBM Pattern for IBM Storage Scale included with the current Cloud Pak System Software release contains the latest fixes for IBM Storage Scale security vulnerabilities.

To pick up the fixes, it is recommended to upgrade any IBM Storage Scale server or client instances that were deployed with an earlier version of the IBM Storage Scale Pattern to the currently supported IBM Storage Scale Pattern version.

You can update the instances in the following ways:
  • Recommended approach: Update the pattern type version that is used by the deployments to the version that is included in the current Cloud Pak System Software release. This approach ensures that the pattern is updated and any pattern fixes available with the new release are applied.
  • Apply an emergency fix to the deployed instances. The emergency fix is available on IBM Fix Central. Follow the instructions in the documentation that is provided with the fix to apply the fix to the instances.
