Adding content to the internal Installation Manager repository

When you import virtual system patterns to Cloud Pak System Software for Power®, the software packages are automatically uploaded to Storehouse and the internal Installation Manager repository.

Before you begin

You must be assigned the Create new catalog content role or the Workload resources administration role with full permissions to complete this task.

You can use the console or the command line interface to complete this task or to manually add software packages to the internal Installation Manager repository. For the command line information, see the Related information section.

About this task

The software package that you upload to the Installation Manager repository must be a complete repository archive. You might need to repackage the files into a single archive file before you can upload it for use in Cloud Pak System Software for Power. Refer to the documentation for the software for details about packaging the files into a single archive.

For example, if you download the "Application Server V8.5.5.1 local repository compressed files containing Base, Developers, ND, NDDMZ, Java™ SDK" package for WebSphere® Application Server V8.5.5 Fix Pack 1, the download consists of 8.5.5-WS-WAS-FP0000001-part1.zip and 8.5.5-WS-WAS-FP0000001-part2.zip. You must combine these two files into a single archive file before you upload it to Cloud Pak System Software for Power.

Most browsers limit uploads to around 2 GB. If the software package file exceeds this limit, use the command-line interface to upload the file.

Procedure

  1. Click Catalog > IBM Installation Manager Repository.
  2. Click Add New.
    • Choose Add New Category if there is no existing category for the software package that you want to add. Use this hierarchy for the categories:
      • Category name. For example, WAS.
    • Choose Add New Software Package if an existing category is suitable for the software package.
      1. Browse to the compressed file for the software package.
      2. Set the category.
      3. Click Add.

Results

Software packages, fix packs, and interim fixes that you add to the repository are available when users build patterns.

When a virtual system pattern that uses a software package from the Installation Manager is deployed, the Installation Manager client is automatically installed on the virtual machine. This client is used to install the specified software from the Installation Manager repository.

What to do next

If needed, you can delete a software package by selecting it and clicking Delete. Only one software package can be deleted at a time. If you want to delete more than one software package, wait for the first deletion to complete before you delete the next software package.

If you added an emergency fix or an interim fix, install it by using the Maintenance operation for the virtual system instance. For more information, see the Related Tasks.
