Supported virtual system patterns

You can use predefined virtual system patterns provided by IBM®, or you can clone them and customize the copies to create new virtual system patterns more suitable to your environment.

Additional patterns can also be obtained from IBM Fix Central and IBM Passport Advantage®.

To start working with a virtual system pattern, choose any of the following options:
  • Use a predefined virtual system pattern.

If one of the predefined virtual system patterns meets the needs of your environment, you can use it without altering it and deploy it to the cloud.

  • Clone an existing virtual system pattern.

If one of the predefined virtual system patterns closely meets your needs but you must customize it, you can clone the virtual system pattern and then modify the copy.

  • Create a virtual system pattern.

If the predefined or cloned virtual system patterns do not meet the needs of your environment, you can create a virtual system pattern.

For complete details about the supported IBM Cloud Pak and other enterprise software accelerators, see https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSMGNT/welcome.html.

Important: The licenses for the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment Patterns and DB2 with BLU with Acceleration Pattern are included with Cloud Pak System Software Suite for Power®. You must purchase a separate license to use these patterns with Cloud Pak System Software for Power.

You can manage pattern types in the console. You can view pattern types, view the system plug-ins, import a pattern type, accept license agreements, and remove pattern types.

Important: When customizing virtual system pattern operating system configurations such as security settings, user IDs, memory, or networking, consult the appropriate operating system documentation for supported configurations. For example, user names in AIX operating systems have a default maximum length limit of 8 characters. If you plan to specify user names longer than 8 characters, see the documentation for more information on changing this default maximum length limit.
