Importing virtual application patterns

You can import virtual application patterns so that you can edit and deploy the imported application for use in your system.

Before you begin

You must have access to patterns, access to create patterns, or have the Workload resources administration with full permissions to complete this task.

About this task

You can import virtual application patterns that were previously exported or that were developed with IBM® Rational® Application Developer.

Procedure

  1. Click Patterns > Virtual Application Patterns.
  2. Click the Import icon in the toolbar.
  3. Optional: Enter a name for the application in the Name field.
  4. Click Browse to select the application compressed file to import.
Important: If the file size is larger than 2 GB, use the command-line tool to upload the file.
  5. Review the virtual application pattern to ensure that it works when it is deployed.
    1. Select the imported virtual application pattern and click Open in the toolbar.
      The virtual application pattern opens.
    2. Check the configuration of all components, links, and policies to ensure that the settings are appropriate.
In particular, verify any dependencies on other items. For example:
      • Check for any configured interim fixes that are associated with a IBM WebSphere® Application Server component. Remove associated interim fixes that are not required and add interim fixes that you want to include in deployments. Verify that all required interim fixes are available in the list of emergency fixes in the catalog. For more information about interim fixes, see the Related tasks section.
      • Verify other relationships such as reusable components.

What to do next

After you import your virtual application, you can edit the application and deploy it into the system.
