Creating classic virtual system patterns

Create a classic virtual system pattern when you need to create an environment that is not defined by existing classic virtual system patterns.

Before you begin

Review the predefined classic virtual system patterns to see if any of the existing classic virtual system patterns can be used unchanged, or cloned and customized to meet your needs.
Note: The Virtual System Patterns (Classic) is not supported in IBM Cloud Pak SystemSoftware version 2.3.5 and later.
Attention: You can optionally specify a password for some elements during pattern creation. These password fields are provided as a convenience during the testing and development process. Passwords must not be saved in the pattern for patterns that are used in a production environment. Instead, leave the field blank during pattern creation and specify the password when the pattern is deployed.

Procedure

  1. Click Patterns > Virtual System Patterns (Classic).
  2. Click Create New.
  3. Provide the following information about the new classic virtual system pattern:
    Name
Enter a unique name for the classic virtual system pattern.
    Description
(Optional) Enter a detailed description to identify the classic virtual system pattern.
  4. Click OK.
When the new classic virtual system pattern is created, the name of the pattern is added to the list of available patterns, and details of the pattern are displayed in the Virtual System Patterns pane.

What to do next

You can modify your new classic virtual system pattern to suit your needs by completing any of the following tasks:
  • Add, modify, or remove parts.
  • Add script packages to the parts or remove script packages from the parts.
  • Add add-ons to the parts or remove add-ons from the parts.
  • Configure properties for the parts and parameters for script packages as needed.
  • Configure advanced options.
  • Modify the order in which parts are started.
  • Lock the classic virtual system pattern so it cannot be edited in the future, by making it read-only.
  • Deploy the classic virtual system pattern to the cloud.
  • Delete the classic virtual system pattern if it does not suit your needs.
