Configuring advanced options for WebSphere Application Server classic virtual system patterns

Advanced options for WebSphere® Application Server include messaging, session persistence, and global security.

Before you begin

Ensure that you have access to edit the classic virtual system pattern that you want to configure and that the pattern is not read-only.

About this task

The options that are available depend on the topology of the classic virtual system pattern. The predefined classic virtual system patterns provided by the system can be of two topology types: single server classic virtual system patterns and cluster classic virtual system patterns.
Note: The Virtual System Patterns (Classic) is not supported in IBM Cloud Pak SystemSoftware version 2.3.5 and later.

Procedure

  1. Click Patterns > Virtual System Patterns (Classic).
  2. In the Virtual System Patterns window, select the classic virtual system pattern.
  3. Click Edit in the toolbar.
  4. Click Advanced Options on the canvas.
The options available on this panel depend on the topology of the classic virtual system pattern you are editing.
Important: When you open the advanced options editor for a new classic virtual system pattern that has no advanced options set, the displayed settings are the recommended values for the topology.
    The following options are available:
Single server classic virtual system patterns
    • Enable session persistence
    • Global security
For more information about configuring these advanced options for single server classic virtual system patterns, see the related links.
    Cluster classic virtual system patterns
    • Define clusters
      • Enable messaging
      • Enable session persistence
      • Global security
For more information about configuring these advanced options for cluster classic virtual system patterns, see the related links.
IBM® WebSphere Application Server Hypervisor Edition Intelligent Management Pack cluster classic virtual system patterns
If the cluster classic virtual system pattern is from an Intelligent Management Pack image, the following options are also available:
    • Define dynamic clusters
    • Enable overload protection
    • Configure standard health policies
    • On demand router-dependent health policies
For more information about configuring these advanced options for Intelligent Management Pack, see the related links.
  5. Make any required changes and click OK.
  6. If you are enabling session persistence for either a cluster or single server classic virtual system pattern, you must enable the database implemented session persistence. For more information about configuring session persistence, see the related link..
  7. Optional: If you are working with a cluster classic virtual system pattern and you want to configure advanced messaging for it, see the related links.
