Commit IBM Storage Scale version update

This operation commits the IBM Storage Scale version that was updated for a deployed IBM Storage Scale instance.

About this task

This operation also migrates the existing file system to the new version such that only changes that are backward compatible with the previous version of IBM Storage Scale are enabled. The IBM Storage Scale Clients that are running the previous version of IBM Storage Scale can mount the existing file system.

This operation can be performed only on the IBM Storage Scale Primary server instance and on the IBM Storage Scale Client instance. If you attempt to run this operation on the Mirror or Tiebreaker instances, you receive an error.

This operation will not complete successfully in the following cases:
  • The updated IBM Storage Scale Server deployment is in update pending state, meaning that the update is not yet committed on all the IBM Storage Scale server instances in the cluster. Ensure that the IBM Storage Scale instance update process has completed successfully, and that you used the Commit function in the instance details to commit the update for all IBM Storage Scale Server instances in the cluster.
  • When updating the IBM Storage Scale Client, the IBM Storage Scale Server that the client communicates with is not yet upgraded and committed to the new IBM Storage Scale version. The commit operation verifies that the IBM Storage Scale Servers are already updated and committed before committing the client.
