Setting up Platform System Manager for high availability

Before you install IBM® Cloud Pak System Software for Power®, ensure that you follow the recommendations for configuring Platform System Manager for high availability.

About this task

It is recommended that Platform System Manager is configured with high availability. To do so, you must deploy Platform System Manager as a virtual machine (VM) into a vSphere high-availability cluster with more than one ESXi server. This cluster must be in a separate data center from the data center managed by Cloud Pak System Software.

After the Red Hat Enterprise Linux® operating system for Platform System Manager is installed as a VM into this cluster and Cloud Pak System Software is installed in that Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, Platform System Manager and Cloud Pak System Software will have high availability support in a hardware failure on one of the ESXi servers. For more information about how to configure a vSphere high-availability cluster, see the VMware vSphere 6.0 Documentation Center.
