Creating deployment subdomains

You can create deployment subdomains.

Before you begin

You can create one or more deployment subdomains in your management domain configuration to define multisystem deployment environments as part of your multisystem environment.

You must have already created the management domain where your deployment subdomains are to reside.

About this task

You can create any number of deployment subdomains in your management domain configuration.

Note: Cloud Pak System Software installations can be used to manage your management domain and its deployment subdomains. However, Cloud Pak System Software installations can have membership only in management domains and not deployment subdomains. Membership in a deployment subdomain is limited to Cloud Pak System.

Procedure

  1. Click System > Management Domain Configuration.
The Management Domain Configuration page is displayed.

The management domain should already be defined for the system. The current configuration details are displayed, showing locations that have been added to the management domain.

  2. Click Create Deployment Subdomain.
The Create Deployment Subdomain dialog is displayed.
  3. In the Name field, specify a unique name for the deployment subdomain and click OK.
You can also click Cancel to cancel the create request.

If you specify the name of a subdomain that is already being used, an error message is displayed. Be sure to enter a unique name.

The deployment subdomain is created and displayed as a separate area of the management domain, and the following items are displayed:
    • The name of the deployment subdomain with the number of locations defined is displayed.
    • The deployment subdomain status is shown initially in the Pending state. When the subdomain is created, the state changes to Defined.
    • A Trash Can icon is displayed. Click this icon to delete the deployment subdomain and any locations that have been added.
    • A Plus icon is displayed. Click the icon in the deployment subdomain to add a local or remote Cloud Pak System location to the deployment subdomain. You can also drag a location from the available pool of locations (those locations that are not already part of a deployment subdomain) into the deployment subdomain to add it to the deployment subdomain.
    Notes:
    • Click the Deployment Subdomain status icon to display the Deployment Subdomain dialog that shows the subdomain status and any supporting status messages.
    • Click the header area of the deployment subdomain to collapse or expand the deployment subdomain area to clear space on the management domain canvas.

What to do next

You can add another deployment subdomain to the management domain, and add a location to the deployment subdomain as needed to continue your multisystem configuration.

If the deployment subdomain fails to create, the state of the deployment subdomain will be Failed. Click the State icon to display a message that explains the cause of the subdomain state. Examine the job summary to display the associated error message. You can delete the deployment subdomain and attempt to create it again.
