Connect to the server after deployment

Use this information to deploy a client instance and connect to the server after client deployment.

When you use a virtual application instance or a virtual system instance, you can choose to connect to a IBM Storage Scale shared file system using the IBM Storage Scale Client Policy or a IBM Storage Scale Client script package.

IBM Storage Scale Client Policy

If you use the IBM Storage Scale Client Policy and choose the GPFS client install and configuration option, the client connects to the server and IBM Storage Scale shared file system at deployment time. If you want to deploy the client and connect to the server after the client is deployed, select the GPFS Client Install for off rack GPFS Server option. Selecting this option installs only the IBM Storage Scale client binaries and client cluster on the client virtual machine.

After the client is deployed you can use the Connect to server operation to connect to the IBM Storage Scale server cluster and the Allocate Directories on GPFS shared file server operation to connect to the IBM Storage Scale shared file system managed by the IBM Storage Scale server cluster.

IBM Storage Scale Client script package

If you use the IBM Storage Scale Client script packages, the connection to the server is completed after deployment.

Note that the IBM Storage Scale Client script packages run on demand. Therefore, if you use the IBM Storage Scale Client script packages, the connection to the IBM Storage Scale server cluster and to the IBM Storage Scale shared file system is completed after deployment, when you execute the Allocate Directories on GPFS shared file server script package or one of the two Connect options available with the GPFS Client Operations script package. If you want to connect to a IBM Storage Scale Server other than the one specified by the IBM Storage Scale shared service instance deployed in the same environment profile as the client instance (assuming you have such instance running), use the GPFS Client Operations option to specify the Manager IP and key.
