Functions of the monitoring agent

The DataPower® Appliance agent provides a central point of monitoring for the WebSphere® DataPower appliances in your enterprise environment.

The agent offers a comprehensive means of gathering information that is required to detect problems early. It can identify and notify you of common problems with the appliances that it monitors by providing the following four categories of information:
  • Availability information
    • Communication availability of the appliance
    • Ethernet interface status
    • Event notification
    • Firmware status
    • Object status
    • System log
  • Performance information
    • HTTP transaction rate
    • HTTP transaction time
    • Log target status
    • Transaction latency
  • Resource information
    • CPU usage
    • File system usage
    • Memory usage
  • Workload information
    • Network transaction throughput
    • System load
    • TCP statistics
The DataPower Appliance agent provides the following benefits:
  • Increased knowledge with extensive reporting capabilities that provide real time access to reliable, up-to-the-minute data. Thus, you can make faster, better-informed operating decisions.
  • Enhanced system performance that you can use to integrate, monitor, and manage your WebSphere DataPower appliances. For example, the monitoring agent can alert you when conditions in your environment meet or exceed the thresholds that you set. These alerts notify your system administrator to limit and control system traffic.
