Monitoring and reporting

CICS® provides statistics and monitoring facilities that you can use to get information about a running CICS system. Utilities are provided to format the information from these facilities. In addition to these foundation facilities, there are ways to monitor CICS workloads when they run in a cloud-native environment. There are three main pillars of observability for a cloud native deployment: metrics monitoring, log monitoring, and tracing.

You can tailor these tools and offline programs to provide information at specific event points or at specific time intervals in the running of the CICS system. You can also tailor them to specify the types of data about which CICS is to provide the information.

There are sources of information that are often used in troubleshooting that can be of use in monitoring. See Sources of information.
