Managing workloads
You can use CICS Explorer® for some aspects of CICSPlex® SM
workload management. Use the WLM operation views and editors to show
details of active workloads, including target regions, transaction
groups, and affinities. Use the WLM specification view and editor
to create and manage WLM specifications.
Workload management with CICS Explorer
You can manage all your CICSPlex SM workload management (WLM) resources with CICS Explorer , but be aware that CICS Explorer introduces some different terminologies from those in CICS® TS.
Viewing related WLM resources in the Workload Map view
The Workload Map view shows related definitional workload management (WLM) resources in a CICSplex, making it easier to understand the complex relationships between WLM resources and how and where they are being used.
Activating or quiescing a target region in an active workload
You can use CICS Explorer to activate or quiesce a target region in an active workload.
Adding or removing systems in a CICS system group
You can add CICS systems or other system groups to a CICS system group. Any systems that you add can be a router for only one group. If this system group is a router for a workload and you add a system that is already a router for a different workload, a conflict is produced, which you must resolve before you can save the changes. If this system group is not a router for a workload, the conflicts section shows the message The system group is not assigned to a workload so no conflicts can occur when the editor is opened.
Creating a workload specification
A workload specification identifies the CICS systems or CICS system groups in a CICSplex that are to be treated as routing regions, and the default target regions. You can also use a workload specification to identify a default affinity relationship and lifetime. You can create a basic workload specification and then add the attributes for the default transaction group. Alternatively, you can create a workload specification that is based on the attributes of an existing specification.
Displaying details of an active workload
You can open an active workload and show details of the default routing rule or specific routing rules. The active workload editors show the details of an active workload. The Default routing editor shows details of the targets and transactions in the default target scope. The Routing Rule editor shows details of the targets, transactions, and affinities for the specific routing rules in the active workload.
Editing a workload specification
Use the Workload Specification editor to change a workload specification. You can add more routers, workload groups, or workload definitions (known as routing rules ), and you can change other attributes of the workload specification.
Viewing workloads in a CICSplex
You can view all the workloads, routers, and target systems in a CICSplex whether they are active or inactive.
