Create host failed when creating bootable volumes or booting virtual machine from volume

Problem Description

Creating bootable volumes may encounter an error on the IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center UI like:

Failed to copy image to volume:
Bad or unexpected response from the storage volume backend API:
Unable to fetch connection information from backend:
Volume driver reported an error: create_host: No wwpns supplied.

Resolution

Administrator needs to check if the FCP device(s) exist on the management node by executing:

lszfcp

If there is no output, administrator needs to refer setup FCP device(s) to assign FCP device(s) on the management node.

If the output contains FCP device(s) info then please check the status of FCP device(s) by executing:

[root@s8344009 ~]# vmcp q path to 17bf 17ff
Device 17BF, Status ONLINE
 CHPIDs to Device 17BF (PIM) : 6E
  Physically Available (PAM) : -
  Online (LPM) : +
Device 17FF, Status ONLINE
 CHPIDs to Device 17FF (PIM) : 6F
  Physically Available (PAM) : +
  Online (LPM) : +
                       Legend + Yes - No

The + symbol represents that the status of FCP device is available and the - symbol represents that the status of FCP device is not available.

You may need support from the hardware team to check the status of FCP device if you see the - symbol.

Note

Before you execute the vmcp q path command, please make sure you have right privilege class by following QUERY PATHS.
