Configuring
This section contains the following topics to help you configure IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center.
Working with hosts
The hosts are the compute nodes of the IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center. You can work with the hosts with the operations add, edit, and remove.
Working with networks
IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center supports two types of networks: Flat and VLAN. Networks must be created by administrators before you deploy a virtual machine or create a deploy template. These networks belong to one specified project or shared across projects.
Working with images
The operating system of the image supported by IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.7, RHEL7.8, RHEL7.9, RHEL8.1, RHEL8.2 and RHEL8.3, Red Hat Enterprise Linux CoreOS (RHCOS) 4.6 and 4.7, UBUNTU 20.04, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 SP1 and SLES 15 SP2.
Working with virtual machines
If you are assigned the admin role to a project in IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center, in addition to start, stop, restart and delete a virtual machine, you can also resize, catpure a virtual machine, or attach/detach a volume to it. Other user roles may not be allowed to do these operations.
Managing requests
Depending on the project policies, some actions might require administrator's or project manager's approval. In those situations, when you request an action such as a deployment, a request is generated but the action is not started until the request is approved.
Working with snapshots
Snapshots can be used to help prepare your environment for recovery. A snapshot allows for a complete copy of a virtual machine at a point in time to be created. IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center provides the snapshot feature for the virtual machines.

Creating a project with deploy templates
Follow this procedure to create a project, add users, assign them roles, and create a deploy template for an image.
Viewing usage information
On the Overview tab of the home page, administrators and project managers can view the current resource usage information by project or by user.
Monitoring
This section contains the following topics to help you enabling or disabling the monitoring feature of IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center.
Backing up
Use the icic-backup command to back up your essential IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center data. You can then restore your system to a working state in the event of data corruption or data loss.
License tracking
License tracking is enabled by default in IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center. The license consumption model calculates the number of licenses based on the total number of virtual machines managed by IBM Cloud Infrastructure Center. This information helps customers and auditors to know how many licenses they need to be compliant.
Managing resources for z/VM
After you register your initial hosts, networks, and optionally, storage with IBM® Cloud Infrastructure Center, you can add additional hosts, networks and storage. You can also add existing virtual machines to your environment so that you can use IBM Cloud Infrastructure Center to manage them.
