IBM Storage Ceph Storage Replication Adapter overview
The IBM Storage Ceph Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) is a comprehensive software extension that is designed to integrate seamlessly with VMware Live Site Recovery (VLSR). It enables automated, efficient, and highly reliable disaster recovery (DR) operations for IBM Storage Ceph.
Note: VLSR is formerly VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM).
Built for business continuity and high availability, SRA facilitates seamless failover, failback, and reprotection between a protected IBM Storage Ceph site and a recovery IBM Storage Ceph site. By using storage-based replication and mirroring, it can ensure data integrity, minimize downtime, and simplify recovery workflows in VMware environments.
Note: This documentation set refers to protected and recovery sites, consistently with VMware Live Site Recovery (VLSR).
- The terms protected, production, and primary are equivalent.
- The terms recovery and secondary are equivalent.
Important: For stretch cluster configurations, protected and recovery sites correspond to different locations within the same cluster. Disaster recovery operations are location-based rather than relying on replication between separate clusters.
Disaster recovery management
Disaster recovery management is supported for Ceph Block Device (RBD) snapshot mirroring. For stretch cluster configurations, disaster recovery operations are location-based within a single cluster and do not rely on snapshot replication between clusters.
For more information, see in the IBM Storage Ceph documentation.
Note: Only regular image-based snapshot mirroring is supported with SRA. Ceph Block Device namespace mirroring and consistency group mirroring are not supported.
Note: In stretch cluster configurations, failover operations reassign namespace locations instead of replicating data between clusters.
