Manage objects in a bucket

Browse, upload, download, and manage objects within a bucket by using the S3 Object Browser.

About this task

After you select a bucket from the Buckets page, you can manage its contents from the Objects view. You can browse objects, upload and download data, organize content, and view object details.

Browse objects

View and navigate objects and folders within a bucket.

About this task

The Objects view displays the contents of a selected bucket. Use this view to locate and navigate objects and folders.

Procedure

  • Review the object list from the Objects view.
    The table displays details such as:
    • Object name
    • Size
    • Last modified date
  • Search for an object.
    Use the search field to find objects by name or prefix.
  • Filter objects.
    Use filter options to refine the object list.
  • Switch between object views.
    Select Objects or All versions to view current objects or all object versions, including delete markers.

Upload objects

Upload files or folders to a bucket.

Procedure

  1. From the Objects view, click Upload.
  2. Select files or folders to upload.
    You can upload items by selecting them from your system or by using drag and drop.
  3. Optional: Configure upload settings.
    You can configure options such as:
    • Add a prefix to organize objects
    • Add tags
  4. Click Upload.
    A notification appears indicating that the upload has started and a banner displays the current upload status. Click View Current Uploads to monitor ongoing and queued upload progress.
  5. Optional: Refresh the object list.
    If necessary, click Refresh to update the object list after uploads complete.

Results

The uploaded objects appear in the object list.

Download objects

Download objects from a bucket to your local system.

Procedure

  1. Select the object that you want to download from the Objects view.
  2. From the options menu, click Download.

Results

The selected object is downloaded to your local system.

Share an object

Generate a temporary link to access an object.

About this task

You can generate a presigned URL to provide temporary access to an object. The link can be shared and remains valid until it expires.

Procedure

  1. Select an object from the Objects view.
  2. From the options menu, click Share.
  3. In the Share object form, select the link expiration.
    Use the Link expiry drop-down to specify how long the generated link remains valid.
  4. Generate the shareable link.

Results

A presigned URL is generated. You can copy and share the link to provide temporary access to the object.

Manage folders

Create and delete folders to organize objects in a bucket.

Procedure

  • Create a folder.
    From the Objects view, click Create folder, enter a folder name, and confirm.
  • Delete a folder.
    Select the folder, then from the options menu, click Delete.

Results

The folder structure is updated in the bucket.

View object details

View detailed information about an object.

Procedure

  1. Select an object from the Objects view.
  2. View object details.
    The object details dialog includes the following tabs:
    • Overview: Displays object information, location, and access details.
    • Versions: Displays object versions with details such as storage class, last modified date, and checksum.
    • Tags: View and manage object tags.

      For more information, see Manage object metadata and tags.

    • Object Lock / Legal Hold: View object lock status and configure retention or legal hold settings.

Delete objects

Delete objects that you no longer need.

Procedure

Important: Deleting an object permanently removes it from the bucket.
  1. Select the object that you want to delete from the Objects view.
  2. From the options menu, click Delete.
  3. Confirm the deletion.

Results

The object is deleted and no longer appears in the object list.
