Manage lifecycle rules

Create and manage lifecycle rules to automate how objects are retained, transitioned, and expired.

About this task

Lifecycle rules enable you to automate object management based on defined conditions. You can configure rules to control how objects are retained, transitioned between storage classes, or expired over time.

Create a lifecycle rule

Edit online

Create a lifecycle rule to automate object retention and storage behavior.

Procedure

Open the bucket that you want to manage.
Go to the Data management tab.
Locate the lifecycle rules section and click Add.
Enter rule details.
Provide information such as:
- Rule name
- Description (optional)
- Filter conditions
- Lifecycle actions
Required: Configure lifecycle actions.
At least one lifecycle action must be configured when creating a rule. Define how objects are managed, such as:
- Transition objects to a different storage class
- Expire objects after a defined period
Save the lifecycle rule.

Results

The lifecycle rule is created and appears in the lifecycle rules list.

View lifecycle rules

Edit online

View lifecycle rules configured for a bucket.

About this task

The lifecycle rules section displays all rules configured for the selected bucket.

Procedure

Open the bucket that you want to manage.
Go to the Data management tab.
Review the list of lifecycle rules.
The table displays details such as:
- Rule name
- Status
- Configured actions

Update a lifecycle rule

Edit online

Modify an existing lifecycle rule.

Procedure

Open the bucket that you want to manage.
Go to the Data management tab.
Select the lifecycle rule to update.
Modify the rule settings.
Save the changes.

Results

The lifecycle rule is updated.

Delete a lifecycle rule

Edit online

Remove a lifecycle rule that is no longer needed.

Procedure

Open the bucket that you want to manage.
Go to the Data management tab.
Select the lifecycle rule to delete.
Click Delete.
Confirm the deletion.

Results

The lifecycle rule is removed from the bucket.
