vSphere Cluster summary and configuration

Use the vSphere plug-in to view information about the vSphere cluster's representation on the IBM Storage Ceph Plugin for vSphere dashboard.

Viewing vSphere cluster summary information

In the vSphere Client inventory, identify the vSphere cluster you wish to explore.

To see a summary view, navigate to the Summary tab within the vSphere cluster and scroll to the IBM Storage Ceph card. The IBM Storage Ceph card displays which Ceph clusters are mapped to the vSphere cluster.

vSphere host connections

The information on the Host Connections view shows the representation of the vSphere cluster on every registered storage system, as detailed in Table 1.

Navigate to the host connections from the cluster by going to Configure > IBM Storage Ceph > Host Connections.

Note: It is not a requirement to use host clusters to perform actions using the plug-in. However, if using host clusters, every ESXi host must be defined in the same host cluster on the storage system.
Table 1. IBM Storage Ceph Host Connections information
Detail type Description
Ceph Cluster ID The ID of the Ceph cluster
Alias
The user defined alias name for the storage system.
Note:
  • Using an alias is optional but recommended.
  • If there is no alias for any of the storage systems the alias column is automatically hidden. You can alter column's visibility by using the show/hide icon.
Gateway Group Name of the Ceph NVMe-oF gateway group on the cluster.
Subsystem NQN NQN of the Ceph NVMe-oF subsystem.
Status The status of the Ceph cluster.

Viewing additional cluster host connection information

To view further details, expand the host connection details pane for the row. The detail pane displays additional following information in an accordion for each ESXi host in the selected vSphere cluster, as detailed in Table 2.
Table 2. Additional ESXi host connection information
Detail type Description
Host Name on Storage System The name of the ESXi host on the Ceph storage system. This name is taken directly from the storage system.
Status on the Storage System The status of the ESXi host, as seen on the main dashboard.

If there is a mismatch between the environment in the vSphere Client and the selected storage system, an error is raised with a link to the storage system to resolve.
