Enhancements
This section lists all the major updates, and enhancements introduced in this release of IBM Storage Ceph Plugin for vSphere .
- Multiple Ceph NVMe-oF subsystems are now supported
-
Previously, only a single Ceph NVMe-oF subsystem within a gateway group was supported through IBM Storage Ceph Plugin for vSphere.
With this enhancement, multiple Ceph NVMe-oF subsystems within a gateway group are supported within a single cluster, with the same support configurations and limitations as IBM Storage Ceph NVMe-oF gateway. For more information about Ceph NVMe-oF gateway support and limitations, see Ceph NVMe-oF gateway within your IBM Storage Ceph documentation.
The support of multiple Ceph NVMe-oF subsystems now allows the same Ceph cluster to be added multiple times.
Add Ceph NVMe-oF subsystems while adding storage systems to the plug-in. For more information, see Adding a storage system to the plug-in.

Add Ceph NVMe-oF gateway groups while adding storage systems to the plug-in. For more information, see Adding a storage system to the plug-in.
- Multiple pools are now supported
- Previously, only a single pool could be connected to a cluster through the vSphere Plugin.
With this enhancement, multiple pools are supported.
Manage pools through the storage system. For more information, see Managing storage systems in the plug-in dashboard.
- Removing a VMFS datastore now also deletes underlying volumes
-
Previously, removing a VMFS datastore only removed the datastore and did not delete or remove any underlying Ceph Block Device volumes. As a result, any associated volumes remained on the storage system but were not accessible for restoration or deletion without contacting the storage administrator.
With this enhancement, removing a VMFS datastore also removes the underlying Ceph Block Device volumes and moves them to the trash.
- Additional IBM Storage information for vSphere objects
-
Additional IBM Storage information for vSphere objects is now supported in a production environment.
Use the vSphere Plugin to view additional information for any associated ESXi hosts, vSphere cluster, or VMFS datastores taken from IBM storage systems.
For more information, see Additional IBM Storage Ceph information for vSphere objects.
- Managing datastore snapshots is now supported
- Managing datastore snapshots is now supported in a production environment.
Use the vSphere Plugin to view and manage a selected datastore's snapshots on the storage system.
For more information, see Managing datastore snapshots.
- Managing hosts is now supported
- IBM Storage Ceph Plugin for vSphere now supports managing hosts from the plug-in dashboard. Use the vSphere Plugin to manage IBM Storage Ceph host NQN connections directly from within the VMware vSphere Client.
For more information, see Managing hosts in the plug-in dashboard.
