Install the Multi-Cluster Manager agent

The Multi-Cluster Manager automatically deploys the Multi-Cluster Manager agent when you attach a cluster.

Before you begin

Before you begin, make sure that you have the following prerequisites in place:
  • The IBM Storage Ceph Dashboard is accessible from the IBM Storage Ceph Multi-Cluster Manager server.
  • You have valid IBM Storage Ceph Dashboard administrator credentials.
  • Network connectivity exists between the IBM Storage Ceph server and the Ceph cluster.
  • Initial login and password changes are complete. For more information, see Initial login and password management.
  • Generate a JWT token with administrator privileges on the target Ceph cluster.
  • The target Ceph cluster has the Prometheus monitoring stack enabled.
For more information about the IBM Storage Ceph Dashboard, see Dashboard in your version of the IBM Storage Ceph documentation.

About this task

The IBM Storage Ceph Multi-Cluster Manager agent is required to collect cluster health, capacity, and version data and stream metrics to the Multi-Cluster Manager server.

The agent runs as a cephadm custom container deployed on each managed cluster.

Note: All onboarding steps are performed from the Multi-Cluster Manager dashboard.

Procedure

  1. Open the Multi-Cluster Manager dashboard.
  2. From the Multi-Cluster Manager dashboard, go to Clusters > Attach Cluster.
    The Attach Cluster form displays.
  3. Fill in the Attach Cluster form and click Submit.
Multi-Cluster Manager automatically performs the onboarding process and verifies connectivity to the cluster.

Results

The cluster appears in the Multi-Cluster Manager dashboard and begins reporting health, alert, capacity, and performance information.

What to do next

After the cluster is successfully added, verify cluster attachment and begin centralized monitoring from the Ceph Dashboard. For more information, see Access the Multi-Cluster Manager from the Ceph Dashboard.
