Install the IBM Storage Ceph Multi-Cluster Manager server and agents to enable centralized monitoring of IBM Storage Ceph clusters.

The IBM Storage Ceph Multi-Cluster Manager deployment consists of two components:

  • The Multi-Cluster Manager server.
  • The Multi-Cluster Manager agent.

What happens during onboarding

Installing the Multi-Cluster Manager agent is done automatically through the Attach Cluster form. The Multi-Cluster Manager is deployed automatically when you attach a cluster.

Deploying a new Multi-Cluster Manager and attaching a cluster both work in the same way.

During onboarding, Multi-Cluster Manager:

  • Validates the JWT token and verifies connectivity to the Ceph Dashboard API.
  • Creates a dedicated mcm_agent service account and associated permissions on the target cluster.
  • Creates the required API user for agent-to-server communication.
  • Deploys the mcm-agent service through the Ceph Dashboard cephadm orchestrator API.
  • Configures Prometheus remote_write to forward supported metrics to the Multi-Cluster Manager Prometheus server.
  • Updates dashboard settings, including the Message of the Day (MOTD) and managed-cluster integration settings.
  • Waits for the first metrics heartbeat and then marks onboarding as completed.
