Create a category in Sterling Business Center

You can create a category to provide your catalog with a means to organize all the items into different hierarchical and searchable groupings. After creating a category for a catalog, you can create subcategories, add items, provided services, and assign attributes to the category.

About this task

You can create a category from the Catalog Management screen.

To create a category:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the Catalog Management Screen. To navigate to the Catalog Management screen, perform the following steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling™ Business Center as an Item Administrator.
    2. The application home page is displayed. Click the Products tab.
    3. From the Products home page, click Manage Catalogs in the Catalog dashlet.
    4. The Catalog List screen is displayed. Click the Catalog ID hyperlink corresponding to the catalog for whose category you want to assign an item.

      The Catalog Management screen is displayed.

  2. From the Catalog Hierarchy tree, select the category under which you want to create the new category. However, to create a root level category, select the catalog from the Catalog Hierarchy tree.
  3. In the Related Tasks panel, click Create Category.
  4. The Category Details screen is displayed. Perform the following steps:
    1. In the Category ID* field, enter a unique identifier (ID) for the category. Do not add a space or special characters such as + - && || ! ( ) { } [ ] ^ " ~ * ? : \
      Note: After defining the identifier, you cannot modify it.
    2. In the Short Description field, enter a brief description of the category. The category will be identified by this description in the Catalog Hierarchy tree.
    3. In the Long Description field, enter a detailed description of the category. This detailed description typically contains any additional information about the category.
  5. In the Category Details screen, click Save.

    Note: * indicates that the field is mandatory.

    A new category is created and is displayed in the Catalog Hierarchy tree either under the corresponding catalog or corresponding category. After creating the category, you can now manage items for the category.
