IBM® Sterling™ Call Center enables you to manage catalog. It enables you to create,
modify, manage, assign, remove, add, delete and perform other functions in category
details.
Managing the selling catalog
An active selling catalog represents a category hierarchy that is used by customers. Selling catalogs help customers navigate to and narrow down specific items. There can only be one active selling catalog at a given time for a catalog organization or a subcatalog organization.
Create a category in Sterling Business Center
You can create a category to provide your catalog with a means to organize all the items into different hierarchical and searchable groupings. After creating a category for a catalog, you can create subcategories, add items, provided services, and assign attributes to the category.
Modify catalog details
You can modify the short description and long description pertaining to a catalog.

You can modify the short description and long description of a category.
Modify the sequence of categories and child categories
You can modify the sequence of categories and child categories to group them logically. The sequence of the categories and child categories determines the sequence in which the items are displayed in the organization's web site.
Managing item and service assignments for a category
Managing the item and service assignment for the category, involves, assigning an Item to a Category, assigning a Provided Service to a Category, moving an Item from One Category to Another Category, moving a Provided Service from One Category to Another Category, removing an Item from a Category, and removing a Provided Service from a Category.
Assign an item to a category
You can assign different hierarchical and searchable groupings to all the items in a category. The items in the category inherit the attributes assigned to that category.

You can assign a provided service to a category from the Catalog Management screen.

You can move an item from one category to another category if the item belongs to another category from the Catalog Management screen.

When an item is removed from a category, the item is no longer defined by the attributes assigned to the category.

You can remove a provided service from a category if you do not want the provided service in that category.
Assign multiple values to an attribute in a category
You can assign multiple values to an attribute in a category to diversify that attribute.

Managing assets for the category involves, adding an Asset to a Category, modifying Asset Details in a Category, deleting an Asset from a Category, and localizing the Fields in Sterling Business Center .
Add an asset to a category
Assets are electronic media objects that you associate with items, categories, attributes, and attribute values. Asset types include images, video, audio, and text files.
Modify asset details in a category
You can choose to modify the short description and description of an asset. You can also modify the location of the server, asset type, and the name of the file in which the asset is created.
Delete an asset from a category
You can delete an asset from a category if you do not want any of the electronic media objects to be associated with the category.
Managing an attribute for a category
Managing attributes for the category involves, Assigning an Attribute to a Category, assigning a Value to an Attribute in a Category, assigning Multiple Values to an Attribute in a Category, assigning a Usage to an Attribute in a Category, and removing an Attribute from a Category.
Assigning an Attribute to a Category
Attributes are the common properties that are assigned to a category. Items that are assigned to the category inherit these attributes.

You can specify values for each item attribute in a category only if it belongs to a master catalog. For example, for the Television category, you can assign Size, Type, and so on as item attributes. You can also assign multiple values to an attribute, such as for a Size attribute the values can be 21 inches and 32 inches.

You can assign a usage to an attribute to specify about how the attribute will be used in a category. For example, you can specify the usage searchable attributes for an attribute to specify that this attribute is used for searches.
Remove an attribute from a category
You can remove an attribute from a category if you do not want items in the category defined by this attribute.
Associate a keyword to a category
Keywords act as alternative identifiers for a category. Keywords are a list of strings that can be used by a customer using the Web channel application when searching for a category. For example, a keyword for a Televisions category can be TV.
Dissociate a keyword from a category
You can dissociate a keyword from a category if you do not want the keyword to act as an alternative identifier for the category. If you have associated multiple keywords to a category, you can dissociate specific keywords and retain the required keywords.
Delete a category in Sterling Business Center
You can delete a category only if you have deleted the subcategories, items and, assigned attributes from the category. However, you cannot delete a category if it is in the Published status.

A master catalog is a comprehensive list of items belonging to an organization. It is created by default when a catalog organization is created. A master catalog can also be used as an active selling catalog. An active selling catalog represents a category hierarchy that is used by customers.
