Managing Engine user interface

After you publish menus or widgets in Dashboard Designer, the dashboards and widgets are displayed on Engine.

Use Engine to complete the following tasks:

Configuring user preferences
After you log in to Engine, the upper-right of the landing page displays your username, a log out arrow, a Settings icon, and a Themes icon. Use the Settings icon to configure auto-refresh time interval for the widgets and dashboards, specify menu position on Engine, and define export settings for exported dashboard files.
Applying themes
After you log in to Engine, the upper-right of the landing page displays your username, a log out arrow, a Settings icon, and a Themes icon. Use the Themes icon to set a default or custom theme for Engine.
Viewing widgets, maximizing or minimizing widgets, and turning on auto-refresh
After you publish menus or widgets in Dashboard Designer, the dashboards and widgets are displayed on Engine. You can maximize and minimize individual widgets within a dashboard and turn on or turn off the auto-refresh for individual widgets and the dashboard as well. If an external website or web application is embedded within a dashboard, then the website or web application is displayed within the published dashboard.
Creating Free Form dashboards and saving dashboard views
Dashboards that are displayed on Engine are free form dashboards, wherein you can customize the dashboard layout, rearrange exiting widgets within the dashboard, and add published widgets to the dashboard. You can save such customized dashboards as dashboard views and also reset such dashboard views to their original state. You can also modify the dashboard view. The dashboard view is user-specific. You cannot view or modify any dashboard view that is created by other users, even if you belong to same Engine user groups.
Filtering dashboard and widget data by using filters, legends, and Zoom to tag
You can apply default or custom dashboard-level filters and widget-level filters only if they are mapped to widgets. You can also select or clear legend boxes that are displayed on the widget to view data for a specific metric. For Line, Area, Column, and Bar charts, with huge time series data, use the Zoom to tag to zoom in and zoom out the data that is displayed on the charts.
Viewing listener widget, drill-down dashboard, or drill-down URL
A Drill down icon on a widget within a dashboard indicates that a drill-down dashboard is attached to it. Similarly, a Drill down URL icon indicates that a drill-down web page URL is attached to the widget.
Emailing static or dynamic URLs to launch or embed dashboards
You can email dashboard URLs to Engine users only.
Emailing dashboard PDFs
You can email a dashboard as a PDF attachment to a user. If you want the dashboard to display some specific data, then you must apply dashboard-level or widget-level filters to the dashboard before you send it out as an attachment.
Viewing nested maps and comparing KPIs
Map charts display nested maps as drill-down maps. You can drill down to up to three map-levels only. Hover over individual data points on the Map chart to view their key performance indicators (KPI). Up to five KPIs can be displayed for each data point. You must specify these KPIs when you set chart properties. If you want to view and compare a KPI for multiple data points on the chart, then you must also specify such common KPI in the chart properties.
Federating dashboards in Dashboard Application Services Hub
IBM® Dashboard Application Services Hub is an integrated service that is offered by Jazz® for Service Management. Dashboard Application Services Hub provides visualization and dashboard services. It has a single console for administering IBM products and related applications. To federate a Cloud Application Business Insights dashboard, embed the dashboard URL in a Web Widget in Dashboard Application Services Hub.
Exporting and downloading dashboards
You can download dashboards to PDF, XLS, CSV, XML, and HTML file formats. If you want the dashboard to display some specific data, then you must apply dashboard-level or widget-level filters to the dashboard before you download the dashboard.
Scheduling tasks
You can define a schedule to generate dashboard reports in a specific format and email them to one or more email addresses at a defined time interval, either daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. You can also view, edit, cancel, activate, reschedule, or delete already scheduled tasks.
