You can apply default or custom dashboard-level filters and widget-level filters only if
they are mapped to widgets. You can also select or clear legend boxes that are displayed on the
widget to view data for a specific metric. For Line, Area, Column, and Bar charts, with huge time
series data, use the Zoom to tag to zoom in and zoom out the data that is
displayed on the charts.
About this task
You can use widget-level filters and dashboard-level filters in the following ways:
- Use dashboard-level filters to filter data across all the widgets within the dashboard.
For
example, if a dashboard contains six widgets, of which four are mapped to dashboard-level filters
and the remaining two widgets are not mapped. Then, when you apply dashboard-level filters, the data
is filtered only for those four widgets where filters are mapped.
- Use widget-level filters to filter individual widget data. Data in the other widgets remains
unaffected.
- If you use same filters at dashboard-level and widget-level, then data is filtered based on the
latest filter that is applied. So, if you first apply widget-level filters, the widgets display data
according to the applied widget-level filters, and then if you apply dashboard-level filters, all
the widgets display data according to the applied dashboard-level filter, and vice versa.
For
example, if a dashboard contains three widgets, of which one widget contains
Datetime
and Interval
filters, and the same filters are also
present at dashboard-level. When you apply a filter at the dashboard-level, all the three widgets
display data according to the applied dashboard-level filter. If you apply a widget-level filter to
filter data by using a different time range, then that widget displays data according to the
conditions selected in its widget-level filter. The remaining two widgets display data that is
filtered according to the dashboard-level filter. However, now, if you again apply a dashboard-level
filter, then all the widgets display data that is filtered according to the applied dashboard-level
filter.
- If you use same filters at dashboard-level and widget-level, and set auto-refresh interval for
the dashboard, then at every refresh, dashboard-level filters override the widget-level filters. So,
all the widgets display data according to the filter condition selected in dashboard-level
filter.
- If you use different filters at dashboard-level and widget-level, and set auto-refresh interval
for the dashboard, then at every refresh, the widgets with widget-level filters display data
according to the filter conditions selected in the widget-level filter. All the remaining widgets
display data according to the filter condition selected in the dashboard-level filter.
- If multi select filter option is selected for JDBC widget or dashboard, then the published JDBC
widget or dashboard displays drop-down list filters with checkbox next to each filter value. You can
select multiple filter values from the drop-down list. The widget or dashboard displays data for the
selected values only. Additionally, if the maximum selection count is specified while creating the
filter, then in the published JDBC widget or dashboard, you can select only the defined number of
filter values.
For example, while creating a filter, if you select the
Enable Multiple
Selections option and in the
Maximum Selection Count field, you
enter
3. Then, even if the drop-down list displays multiple filter values,
you can select any three filter values at a time. However, if the
Maximum Selection
Count is left blank, then the drop-down list displays the
Select
All option. You can click the
Select All checkbox to view data
for all the filter values.
Note: Selecting too many values hinders the performance of the dashboard.
Hence, it is advisable to limit the number of selections to 200 values only.
Procedure
Applying dashboard-level filters
- To apply dashboard-level filters, complete the following steps:
- Log in to the Engine.
If a menu with multiple category nodes and multiple dashboard nodes is published, then each
category node is displayed separately on the menu bar.
- To view a dashboard that belongs to a category node, click the category node, and then
click the dashboard node that you want to view.
The dashboard with all its widgets is displayed.
- To filter data in all the widgets that are displayed on the dashboard, select filter
conditions from the dashboard-level filters, and click Apply Filter.
For Drop-down List with Search filter option, you must enter three or more
characters in the text field to view the search results.
Based on the supported and mapped filters, the widgets within the dashboard display data
according to the selected filters. For more information, see Filters.
- Optional: JDBC dashboards with drop-down list filters can display multi
select filter option. Complete the following steps to view data for multiple filter values:
- Select one or more filter values from the drop-down list, and click Apply
Filter.
The widget or dashboard displays data for the selected values only. When you select multiple
values, the dashboard-level filters display the number of selected filter values. Hover the pointer
over the number to view the tooltip that displays the actual values that are selected.
Note: On the
Mozilla Firefox browser, if the filter values contain colons, and if you select 900 or more of such
filter values, then the filter tooltip is not displayed.
If maximum selection count is defined while creating the filter, then
whenever that count is achieved, all the remaining check boxes in the drop-down list are disabled.
If the maximum selection count is not defined, then you can select any number of filter
values or you can select all the filter values by selecting the Select All
checkbox.
Note: Selecting too many values hinders the performance of the dashboard. Hence, it is
advisable to limit the number of selections to 200 values only.
- To delete the selections, click the icon on the filter control.
All
the selections are deleted and only the default value or the first filter value is
selected.
Applying Datetime filter to Cloud APM, Monitoring, or ITM data for a customized time
period
- Complete the following steps to apply a Datetime filter either at
dashboard-level or widget-level:
- From the Datetime list, select
Custom.
- In the Custom Time Period Selection window, select a start and
end date, and start and end time.
- Click OK.
- Optional: Only for Monitoring, if required, select
conditions for Aggregation and Summarization
filters.
- Click Apply Filter.
Data is filtered according to the selected filter conditions.
Applying widget-level filters
- Complete the following steps to apply widget-level filters.
- If widget-level filters are assigned to widgets, then click the
Filter
icon. In the pop-up window that opens, select filter conditions, and click
Apply Filter.
- For Drop-down List with Search filter option, you must enter three or
more characters in the text field to view the search results.
- JDBC widgets with drop-down list filters can display multi select
filter option. Complete the following steps to view data for multiple filter values:

Filter.
The widget displays data for the selected values only. If a widget contains
multiple multi select filters, then for each filter, the first filter value along with the total
number of selected filter values is appended to the widget title. Hover the pointer over the number
to view the tooltip that displays the filter label and all the filter values that are
selected.
Note: On the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers, for multi select filter option,
when you select 300 or more numeric filter values, the first filter value along with the selected
filter value count is displayed next to the widget title. However, when you hover the pointer over
the filter value count, then the tooltip displays only the filter label. The tooltip does not
display any filter values.
If maximum selection count is defined while creating the
filter, then whenever that count is achieved, all the remaining check boxes in the drop-down list
are disabled.
If the maximum selection count is not defined, then you can select any number
of filter values or you can select all the filter values by selecting the Select
All checkbox.
Note: Selecting too many values hinders the performance of the
dashboard. Hence, it is advisable to limit the number of selections to 200 values only.
- To delete the selections, click the icon on the filter control.
All
the selections are deleted and only the default value or the first filter value is
selected.
The widget displays data according to the selected filters.
If widget-level filters are assigned to a widget, then the filter icon on the widget displays a
checkmark, , and the filter values
are displayed next to the widget-title. Hover the pointer over each filter value to view the filter
label along with its value.
If a widget title is truncated, then to view the widget title and the filter values, you must
