Configuring user preferences

After you log in to Engine, the upper-right of the landing page displays your username, a log out arrow, a Settings icon, and a Themes icon. Use the Settings icon to configure auto-refresh time interval for the widgets and dashboards, specify menu position on Engine, and define export settings for exported dashboard files.

About this task

All the Engine users can configure their individual preferences.

Use the Settings icon to complete the following tasks:
  • Set auto-refresh time for the widgets and dashboards that are displayed on Engine.
  • To configure preferences for the exported PDF, HTML, or CSV files.
  • To set dashboard menu position on Engine.

For each user, the auto-refresh time interval, PDF, HTML, and CSV settings that are configured on Engine are also applied to Dashboard Designer preview.

Procedure

Configuring dashboard settings

  • To configure dashboard settings, complete the following steps:
    1. Log in to Engine, and click the Settings Settings icon that is displayed on the upper-right of the landing page.

      The Settings window that displays the Dashboard Settings tab opens.

    2. To set the position of Menu, from the Position list, select a position for Menu.

      The default Menu position is horizontal-top. On Engine, by default, the dashboard menu is displayed on the horizontal-top position.

    3. To set an auto-refresh time for the dashboards and widgets, from the Time interval list, select a time in minutes when the widget data must be auto-refreshed.

      The default time is 1 minute.

      Note: The widgets and dashboards are refreshed at the defined time interval, only when the user session is active. The auto-refresh setting is also applied to Dashboard Designer.
    4. To save the settings, click Save.

Configuring export settings for HTML and PDF files

  • To configure export settings for HTML and PDF files, complete the following steps in the Export Settings tab:
    1. The Include Chart Legends checkbox is selected by default. If you do not want the HTML and PDF files to display chart legends, then clear the selection.
    2. The Include User ID checkbox is selected by default. If you do not want the HTML and PDF files to display your user ID, then clear the selection.
      By default, the user ID is displayed on the footer of the HTML and PDF files and is left-aligned. To change the default position and alignment of the user ID, complete the following steps:
      • To specify the position of the user ID in the HTML and PDF files, from the Position list, select a position.
      • To specify the alignment of the user ID, click the required alignment.
    3. The Include Report Date and Time checkbox is selected by default. If you do not want the HTML and PDF files to display date and time, then clear the selection.
      By default, the date is center-aligned on the footer of the HTML and PDF files, and is in MM/DD/YYYY format. To change the default position, format, and alignment of date and time, complete the following steps:
      • To specify the position of date and time in the HTML and PDF files, from the Position list, select a position.
      • To specify the alignment of date and time, click the required alignment.
      • To specify a format, from the Format list, select a format.
    4. Optional: Only for PDF reports, complete the following steps to include page numbers and protect the PDF report:
      • If you want the downloaded PDF file to be protected by a password, then select the Password Protect checkbox, and enter a password in the Password and Confirm password fields.
      • The Include page number checkbox is selected by default. If you do not want the PDF file to display page numbers, then clear the selection.
        By default, the page number is right-aligned on the footer of the PDF file and is in $[Page] of $[Total] Pages format. To change the default position, format, and alignment of the page number, complete the following steps:
        • To specify the position of the page number in the PDF file, from the Position list, select a position.
        • To specify the alignment of the page number, click the required alignment.
        • To specify a format, from the Format list, select a format.
    5. To save the settings, click Save.

Configuring export settings for CSV files

  • To configure export settings for CSV files, complete the following step in the CSV settings pane of the Export Settings tab:
    1. In the File separator field, enter any character that can be used as a separator in the CSV files.

      Pipe or vertical bar keyboard character is used as the default separator.

    2. To save the settings, click Save.
