IBM® BPM is a comprehensive business process management platform. It provides a robust set of tools to author, test, and deploy business processes, as well as full visibility and insight to managing those business processes.

The IBM BPM components provide a unified business process management (BPM) repository to manage the business processes and their associated artifacts, tools for authors, administrators, and users, and a runtime platform.

There are two editions of the product to support various levels of complexity and involvement with business process management.

Edition Description When to use
IBM BPM Express Offers an affordable entry point for initiating BPM projects. It provides an easy-to-use interface with a process execution, monitoring and optimization engine, allowing participants to engage in process improvement activities.

You are starting your first business process management project and are looking primarily for rapid time-to-value and improving user productivity. You don't require an upgrade path to deployment topologies and features only offered in IBM BPM.

IBM BPM Offers a comprehensive BPM platform that provides full visibility and insight into managing business processes. It includes tooling and run time for process design, execution, monitoring and optimization, along with system integration support and connectivity capabilities. IBM BPM combines simplicity with ease-of-use for task management, and extended support for high-volume automation.

Your enterprise is involved in multiple BPM projects and it requires integration support. It might also require high-volume process automation and needs additional SOA components for extensive service integration and orchestration.

IBM BPM is a single platform that combines human-centric and integration-centric capabilities into a unified product. To select which edition to install, consider your enterprise's needs in terms of the level of business process management adoption and the product features and topology support that you want.
