Configuring virtual machines settings
For IBM® Business Process Manager Pattern that runs in IBM Cloud Orchestrator for Linux on System z®, you can configure the default settings for virtual machines that are set for the virtual system patterns.
About this task
In IBM Cloud Orchestrator, a flavor defines the settings of a virtual machine. You can configure the settings for your virtual machines by managing a flavor.
The following table shows the default values of virtual
machines that you can configure for predefined virtual system patterns
by changing the flavor:
| Virtual machine | Default virtual CPU | Default virtual machine memory (GB) |
|---|---|---|
| IBM Process Center or IBM Process Server Deployment Manager | 1 | 3.0 |
| IBM HTTP Server (Process Center or Process Server) | 1 | 2.0 |
| Process Center custom node | 2 | 6.0 |
| Process Server custom node | 2 | 6.0 |
The following table shows the values of virtual machines
that you can configure to optimize your production environment by
changing the flavor:
| Virtual machine | Default virtual CPU | Default virtual machine memory (GB) |
|---|---|---|
| IBM Process Center or IBM Process Server Deployment Manager | 2 | 3.0 |
| IBM HTTP Server (Process Center or Process Server) | 2 | 4.0 |
| Process Center or Process Server custom node | 8 | 10.0 |
| IBM DB2® | 8 | 12.0 |
Note: If you increase the virtual machine
memory for the custom node, the Java™ virtual
machine (JVM) heap size of the IBM Business
Process Manager application
server increases. For example, the JVM heap size of the IBM BPM application server is 2.5 GB if the virtual
machine memory is 6 GB by default. When the virtual machine memory
increases to 12 GB, the JVM heap size of the IBM BPM application server is automatically tuned
to 5 GB. Therefore, increase the added disk size before deploying
applications to ensure that the added disk size is large enough for
the possible dump files. You can count the size of the dump files
as the triple of JVM heap sizes.
Procedure
To configure the default settings for virtual machines,
you can manage a flavor in either of the following ways:
- Open the Flavors window from IBM Cloud Orchestrator Administration.
- Run a command to create a flavor. For more information, see Managing flavors.
