User types and licenses

In IBM Blueworks Live, user types or roles define the level of access and the actions a user can perform within the platform.

The platform offers four primary user types: Editor, Contributor, Viewer, and Community Member.

Licenses refer to the permissions or entitlements that grant access to specific user roles. Editors, Contributors, and Viewers are considered licensed user types. Licensed user type means that each of these roles requires a purchased license to access the platform and perform their respective actions. However, the Community Member type is available without the need for a license.

An Admin manages and converts the licenses for Editor, Contributor, Viewer, and Community member roles by inviting them through the Blueworks Live admin console. Thus, organizations get the flexibility to adjust user permissions as needed, depending on the changing requirements or user responsibilities.

The following table gives an overview of the different user types and their permissions in Blueworks Live.

User types Permissions
Editors
  • Create, copy, modify, and publish artifacts, such as process blueprints and apps
  • Automate and launch process apps
  • Add comments on process blueprint
  • Configure, launch, and participate in the work
  • Have access to process communities
Contributors
  • Create and participate in work
  • View and comment on process blueprints, decisions, and policies
Remember: Contributors do not have permissions to create or modify process blueprints.
Viewers
  • View policies, published processes, published decisions, and playbacks of published processes
Remember: Viewers cannot participate in work and do not have access to Posts, Blogs, or Activity Streams.
Community members
  • Participate in spaces by creating and editing posts and can see the Activity Streams that are associated with those spaces.
Remember: Community members cannot participate in work or view the published decisions, process blueprints, or policies.
Note:
  • Editor, Contributor, or Community Member roles can be assigned as admins for the account with admin capabilities. However, Viewers cannot be assigned admin privileges.
  • If Admins enable the option, Editors and Contributors without edit permission in a space can view unpublished artifacts, if they are participants in that space.
