Calculation engines

Financial Institutions can use calculation engine(s) to carry out specific summations for internal and regulatory purposes.Supportive Content can also be used to describe the specific requirements of financial calculations (calculation engines or other complex queries).

Therefore, these calculations are not performed by the Banking and Financial Markets Data Warehouse, but by the engine, which carries out the calculations. The supportive content terms provide a mechanism to identify the data elements that are required as input and output for those calculations. In this case, the atomic level data from the Atomic Warehouse Model (AWM) is delivered to the calculation engine, which performs the calculation, with the aggregated output being returned to AWM for distribution to the mart(s) for reporting purposes. Since the supportive content terms are mapped to AWM entities and attributes, this provides an abstraction of the AWM source requirements to be determined and documented.
