Creating process applications

When you create a process application, you provide a name, acronym, and optional description of the process application.

About this task

You create process applications in the classic Workflow Center.

IBM Business Automation Workflow V
19.0.0.1An enhanced Workflow Center is also available that is optimized for working with both processes and case solutions. For additional information about the differences between the classic and enhanced workflow centers and how to start the workflow centers, see the topics Workflow Center and Starting the Workflow Center.

Tip: If you are creating processes in your process application, use the classic Workflow Center URL. If you are building BPDs in your process application, use the desktop Process Designer.

Procedure

To create a new process application, complete the following steps:

  1. Start the classic Workflow Center.
  2. In the Process Apps tab, click the Create New Process App option.
  3. In the Create New Process App window, complete the following steps:
    1. In the Process App Name field, specify a name for the process application.
    2. In the Acronym field, specify an acronym by:
      • Accepting the generated acronym, or
      • Typing a new acronym.

The acronym must be unique and limited to 7 characters. Business Automation Workflow uses the acronym as an identifier for this process application and the library items that it contains. For example, when you manipulate the items within the process application with the Business Automation Workflow JavaScript API, you can use the acronym to specify the namespace of the items.

    3. In the optional Documentation field, type a description. You can view the description in the classic Workflow Center by clicking the question mark next to the process application name.
    4. If you want Process Designer to immediately open when the new process application is created, select the Open in Process Designer check box.
    5. Click Create.
  4. Open your process application to create your processes and other artifacts.
By default, process applications open in the Process Designer. To open a process application in the desktop Process Designer, open the classic Workflow Center from the desktop Process Designer.
Process Designer then displays the Process App Settings editor. This editor is where you can update settings that apply globally to the process application such as setting the theme used by its coaches, setting the namespace, and exposing services.
