Setting time display format for durations

You can set the time display format for durations, for example to display the time in seconds, minutes, hours, or days.

About this task

Time display formatting for duration is available for all numerical data items in the following chart types: text, pie, donut, heat map, bubble, scatter, table, bar and line charts. When you know that a numerical data item is a duration, you want to display it in a readable unit. By default, the time unit format is set to milliseconds. To select the unit to be used, follow this procedure.

Procedure

  1. From the Monitoring tab, under Aggregation, choose the Data item that you want to focus on.
  2. Check Set duration display format.
  3. In Input (source) unit, choose the original time unit of the data item in the incoming event: Millisecond, Second, Minute, Hour, Day.
  4. In Output (display) unit, choose the time unit and format you want displayed. Auto uses a format with the 2 units that are most relevant with the current value
    Second, Minute, Hour, Day use a decimal format with 2 decimal places, in the unit you selected.

Results

The time display format of the duration is modified with the one you selected. For example:
  • When selecting Auto, you see 5 minutes 33 seconds, 2 hours 12 minutes, 4 days 2 hours or 2 years 4 days.
  • When selecting either Second, Minute, Hour, or Day, you see 3.32 seconds, 12.55 minutes, 2.40 hours or 4.3 days.
