Pods for IBM Business Automation Insights

IBM Business Automation Insights uses a number of mandatory or optional pods in a Kubernetes cluster.

Initialization

The <insightsengine cr name>-bai-setup and <insightsengine cr name>-insights-engine-application-setup pods are mandatory. These pods run during the initialization phase of Business Automation Insights and then move to Completed status.
  • The <insightsengine cr name>-bai-setup pod creates the Kafka topics and deploys OpenSearch mappings, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • The <insightsengine cr name>-insights-engine-application-setup pod performs further initialization for event processing.

Business Performance Center

The <insightsengine cr name>-insights-engine-cockpit pod (image: image: insights-engine-cockpit) is optional.

For more information about data visualization in Business Performance Center, see Business Performance Center and Configuring Business Performance Center.

Events

The parameters to configure event processing are documented in Event processing parameters External link opens a new window or tab

Deployment of the event processors
All these pods are optional. Event processors are automatically enabled with pattern deployments. If you do not use patterns, configure only the event processors for the type of events that you want to be processed. They run during the initialization phase of Business Automation Insights and then pass to Completed status.

Apache Flink

Flink pods are deployed through an instance of Apache Flink.

The parameters to customize Flink jobs are documented in Flink parameters External link opens a new window or tab.

Kafka and OpenSearch
Kafka pods and OpenSearch pods are also deployed through an instance of Cloud Pak foundational services with the IBM Cloud Pak® for Business Automation deployment.

Management service

The management pod (images: insights-engine-management and insights-engine-management-backend is mandatory and provides an endpoint for custom event, OpenSearch index, and the corresponding OpenSearch mapping. For more information about configuring OpenSearch indices and mappings for custom events, see Events from custom sources and Management service parameters External link opens a new window or tab.
