Creating drill-down charts

You can create multi-layered drill-down charts that allows you to navigate to lower-level data. .

About this task

When creating a drill-down chart, the available measurement types and graph options depend on the layer being worked on. The final layer can use any measurement and graph type. In other layers, all measurement types are possible except DataTable, while the graph type options are limited to all graphs which work one Group by. See Table 5 to get the list of supported graph for each measurement type. To enable drill-down functionality within a layer, you must select Group by in that layer.

Procedure

  1. Create a dashboard by following the instructions in Creating dashboards.
  2. Click Chart + to create a chart.
  3. Enter a unique name and a telling description.
  4. Select Drill-down, and then click Create.
  5. Add a layer by entering a unique name and a telling description.
  6. Select a measurement type. See Charts and Measurements
Data is only applicable for the final layer.
You cannot select the measurement type Drill-down for a layer.
If you selected Period KPI, predictions are not supported.
  7. Click Create.
  8. In Monitoring context, select a Monitoring source.
Note: When adding subsequent layers, do not select a new Monitoring source. Doing so deletes all existing layers.
  9. In Drill-down layers, click the drop-down arrow next to the name of the created layer.
  10. In Monitoring tab, next to Group by, click +, and select a suitable criteria for data grouping.
Note: To enable further drill-down functionality, Group by must be used in each layer.
The Add layer button becomes available.
Depending on the measurement type you chose in step 6, the Filters, Visualization and Thresholds tabs remain active.
Attention: Drill-down breadcrumbs are not correctly updated when dashboard-filters are applied.
  11. In the Drill-down pane to your right, click the preview of the graph type for the newly created layer.
  12. Select a graph type, and the corresponding preview of the chosen graph type appears.
The types of graphs available depend on the measurement type you chose in step 6. See Table 5 to get the list of supported graph for each measurement type.
  13. Click Add a layer to add additional layers as needed.
  14. Repeat steps 5 to 13 (excluding step 8) to add as many layers as you require.
  15. For the final layer, you can select any measurement and any graph type.
  16. Click Done to complete the procedure.
Note: You can delete and rearrange any layer, except for the final layer if it includes a chart that does not support drill-down.
