Authenticating with IBM Cognos Analytics API key

You can use IBM® Cognos® Analytics API key to access Cognos Analytics content in a secure way.

Use this authentication method when traditional Single Sign On options are not possible.

Before you make any configuration changes in Analytics Content Hub, you must make sure that each user has their own API key. You also must create an API key for the Analytics Content Hub system credential user.

Creating an API key for the system credential user

  1. Log in to the Cognos Analytics as the Analytics Content Hub system credential user.
  2. Click the user's icon to open the Personal Menu.
  3. Click the Profile and settings link.
  4. Locate the My API keys option and select Manage.
  5. Click the Generate API key button.
  6. In the Generate API key window, type in the key Name and Description, and press Next.
  7. Click the Copy to clipboard link to copy the API key and press Done to close the window.

Configuring an existing IBM Cognos Analytics connector

  1. Log in as an administrator to the Analytics Content Hub.
  2. Open the Analytics Content Hub Control Center and select Connectors.
  3. Click the IBM Cognos Analytics connector definition to view details.
  4. Open the Setting tab.
  5. Change the Authentication Method value to Cognos API key.
  6. Click Save to preserve the changes.
Important: All users must update their personal credentials to connect to Cognos Analytics with an API key.
