Creating custom metadata fields
You can create custom metadata values for reports and dashboards.
Procedure
- Click the avatar icon and select Manage IBM Analytics Content Hub to open the control center.
- Expand the Content section by clicking the down arrow and select the Custom Fields option.
- Click the Add button to open Add new field window.
- Specify the field type by clicking the Data Type selector.
You can select either a Boolean, or a text type field. If you select the Boolean type, the field is a checkbox with three possible states: empty, true, and false. Text type fields provide all possible options and you can choose only one.
- Type in the custom field name in the Title field.
- Optional: Complete the Internal Data Name field.
- Click the Save icon to create the custom field.
- Specify extra options by following these steps:
- Click the Settings icon and select the extra settings that you need.Note: Text-type fields have more extra options available.
Setting name Field type Description Description Boolean and text
Provides a description of the custom field purpose.
Value required Boolean and text
Determines whether you must set a value for the custom field.
Categorization Boolean and text
If you enable this option, you can use the custom field value to filter search results.
Display in details panel Boolean and text
If you enable this option, the users can see the custom field when they are viewing the item properties.
Text format Text
Defines text format, for example: plain text, email address, and hyperlink.
Allow values not in the options Text
If you enable this option, the users can create new metadata values in addition the default ones.
You can't use this setting together with the Categorization option.
- Click the Save icon to preserve changes.
- Click the Settings icon and select the extra settings that you need.
- Provide static values for the custom field if needed by following these steps:
- Click the Settings icon and then click the Add button.
- Type in the static value in the Value field and leave the
Display Name field blank.
You can use the Display Name field to edit values of existing custom fields. For more information, see Changing custom field values.
- Click the Save icon to preserve changes.
If you want to view a preview of the metadata scheme that the custom field returns, go to the Preview pane.
