Creating code lists

You can create a code list by yourself or ask either your company administrator or the IBM Support to create a code list for you.

About this task

For everyday business requirements, you might want to deploy either the same version of the same code list or a different version in the CTE and production environments. To create a code list, use the procedure that follows.

Procedure

  1. From the side navigation menu, select Company resources > Code lists. Then, click Add Codelist.
  2. On the Add new code list window, enter a CTE business alias, which is your business account name.
  3. To input a name for your code list, select a value from the Prefix drop down and provide a name in the Code list name field. For more information about defining prefixes, see Prefixes.
A valid code list name meets the following parameters:
    • Contains up to 80 characters, including the prefix, separator (the underscore (_) is the default separator), and suffix.
    • Must not contain white space.
  4. If you want to create a variant code list or use a different code list in CTE and production environments, select the Uses a different code list in CTE and production checkbox. For more information, see Deploying a variant code list. Alternatively, to use the same code list in both CTE and production environments, do not select this checkbox. For more information, see Deploying a non-variant code list.
Tip: If you select this checkbox and create a variant code list, the code list appears in the Code lists page with a flag icon.
  5. Input your comments in the Code list description field. Unless you provide your comments in the field, you cannot create your code list. This field can contain up to 250 characters. You can input only ASCII characters.
  6. Click Create Codelist.
Note: When you create a code list, it is automatically checked out in your name.
  7. After you create a code list, in the Code lists page, click code list template to download the template, which is in the .csv format for your code list. The .xml format is compatible with Sterling Integrator.
  8. Rename the file to match your name of the resource.
For example, if your resource name is "codelist001", then rename the template to codelist001.
  9. Populate your code list with values.
  10. Save the file.
